I Got Nothing

Let me start today by hoping you had a great Thanksgiving and that you are ready to have an awesome Christmas this year.  You can now play Christmas music at will.  This morning I had Christmas music playing on the bus and as the kids were getting off Burl Ives was singing "Have a holly jolly Christmas" so I said to the students have a holly jolly Monday.  I didn't get any eye rolls that I could see so that's very good.
Most weeks I start thinking about what to write about for the following week a day or two before I write the post for that week.  Last week what came to my mind was "I Got Nothing," so that is what I started to think about and what I want to discuss this week. My sister asked me if I have any blogs in the bank so to speak.  I do not.  I depend on what happens that week on the bus or elsewhere that gets me to thinking and contemplating about how to live my best life. A life that I can look back on when I am ready to leave this earth and say it was good.  And maybe more important, I want to live a life that others can say, "He made a difference in my life."
Now, back to our subject.  I think when people think they have nothing they really do have something, just not enough for what's needed.  For instance, the disciples were asked by Jesus where they could buy bread to feed the 5000.  They said they had five barley loaves and two fish but there was no way they could feed 5000 people.  God asked Moses what was in his hand and Moses said a staff so that is what God used.  Remember, when God created the universe he started with nothing.
I started this blog back in June because I do have a desire to help people and give them some wisdom for daily living.  I did not have a theology degree that I could use to preach to people.  I did not have a class that I was teaching, a counseling business or a twitter following.  I had no platform of any kind.  However, I did have the ability to write--and an old blog I hadn't used in years.  So I started with that.  I have had a few people tell me that this blog has been helpful to them.  I don't know how many people will be helped but I know it will be more than if I did not write the
blog at all. Like Michael Jordan said "You will miss 100% of the shots you do not take."
So it might be from watching too many Hallmark movies, but I do believe Christmas is a time for miracles.  Actually every day is a time for miracles but Christmas represents the greatest miracle.  So, if you are at a place where you feel like you got nothing and you want to give up or just resign yourself to the status quo, my advice to you (and to me) is just don't.  Look around at what you do have and start with that.  I believe God will take your small beginning and make something great out of it.
Just a thought.
Next week I want to share some of my boyhood Christmas memories and thoughts on Christmas to help us get into the Christmas spirit. "So This is Christmas!"
